It is 2011, somewhere in the Yukon Territory in the far northwest of Canada where the Grizzly Foods story begins. Among majestic mountains, untouched forests, and sparkling lakes, the idea for a brand is born that would soon become Grizzly Foods and bring Premium Beef Jerky to Germany. A brand that creates food, snacks, and meals that are not only delicious but also natural and functional.
From Provision to Business Idea: The Grizzly Foods Story
Grizzly Foods was founded at the end of 2013 by Phillip Klein, who had the idea for his products during an exciting North American journey. In his Gap Year, he hitchhiked through Canada, traversed the country from east to west, and even made a generous detour to Newfoundland. But that wasn’t enough – upon reaching Vancouver, he felt drawn further north to the Arctic Ocean in Alaska, where the Grizzly story took shape in his mind.
On these adventures, he always had dried fruits, nuts, and beef jerky with him as provisions. Jerky, the dried meat, Phillip first encountered in Canada and it quickly became his practical, durable, and hearty snack of choice – and the basic equipment for his journey.
But the idea to make these snacks accessible to others came to Phillip only later. Back in Germany, he began developing various recipes and testing his products. He placed great emphasis on quality and naturalness, as he knew from personal experience how important healthy nutrition is when traveling. Thus, over time, the concept for Grizzly Foods emerged, which today stands for high-quality, delicious, and clean food and snacks.
After returning to Germany, Phillip was still impressed by the hearty and protein-rich beef jerky he had discovered on his North American journey. In Canada, beef jerky was ubiquitous and available everywhere, while in Germany at that time, it was hardly known. But that was about to change – and so the Grizzly Foods story began its course.
Phillip started developing recipes that would meet his high standards. He wanted to ensure that he always had delicious and high-quality beef jerky in Germany as well. For this, he searched for butcheries willing to produce according to his recipes. And he found some – in his homeland in the deep Odenwald, the first production site of Grizzly Foods Premium Beef Jerky was established.
From then on, perhaps Europe’s best jerky was produced in a small country butcher’s shop – German beef, natural ingredients, without sugar or artificial additives, and with great attention to detail. From the beginning, the products of Grizzly Snacks were a success and quickly found their fans in Germany. But Phillip and his team had even bigger plans – they not only wanted to produce beef jerky but also other healthy and natural snacks and foods. Thus, the story of Grizzly Foods began, which to this day stands for quality, naturalness, and taste.
From Beef Jerky to Vegan Jerky: The Expansion of Grizzly Foods’ Offerings
The result of Phillip’s efforts was an absolutely uncompromising beef jerky. From the beginning, he emphasized the best quality and naturalness, consistently avoiding artificial additives, flavor enhancers, or added sugar. Throughout the Grizzly Foods history, the beef for our beef jerky has exclusively come from Germany and is marinated in thin strips with natural spices and ingredients. Then, air drying is carried out slowly in a special drying process – the result is a premium beef jerky that is second to none.
Another plus is the record-breaking protein content of 70%. For those who focus on a protein-rich diet, the beef jerky from Grizzly Foods is an excellent choice!
Today, Grizzly Foods offers its beef jerky in six different flavors, including classics like Original and Cracked Pepper, as well as more exotic variants like Burn Baby Burn or Teriyaki. But that’s not all – the company has since expanded its range to include more clean and natural snacks. For example, there are delicious, ready-to-drink broths, soups, and unique umami spice blends.
The Grizzly Foods story was ultimately redefined by an absolutely innovative Vegan Jerky. Driven by the desire for simple and uncomplicated, yet tasty foods, the Grizzly Foods team is always working on developing new products and delighting its customers.
